Smart Devices & My Thoughts xoxo

iphone, smartphone, appsI, too, used to be obsessed with tracking every movement I made.  I remember needing to make sure that I locked as specifically as possible WHAT I was doing or my efforts were null and void…lol…in hindsight it was so ridiculous.

How did people before me ACTUALLY get healthier without “smart” devices…it must have been soooo hard right??  They couldn’t track their calories burned, their steps in a day, their flights of stairs walked, their cups of water consumed…I mean if you can’t log these things, you clearly won’t succeed right??

Why the obsession with tracking calories burned?  Why the obsession with steps moved?  Is obsession the right word?  Or is it just accountability?

I think there is a fine line between the two and at what stage people are at.

I used to be quite obsessive.  I NEEDED to track everything to SEE my progress.  I would be so upset if I couldn’t track my workouts…I would have nothing to share with the world (or myself) if I didn’t.

Let me just soothe your soul and let you know…you really don’t need any smart devices.  You need to focus on the movements, the effort you put in to them, feel your body and what it’s telling you…

You need a badge to let you know you did a good job??  Seriously?  How about a pat on the back and just get on with it lol

Yes, I understand the fun in tracking but people lose sight VERY easily with the fun and the obsessive when it comes to smart devices.

Let loose…take it off…just enjoy the workout and realize that you can make the same amount of progress without the device tracking it…all that matters is YOU show up and do what you need to do.

ALSO–what is the point of tracking your calories burned if you aren’t tracking calories consumed in the first place??   It kinda defeats the purpose if the goal is to be in either a surplus, maintenance or deficit phase.

thanks for joining my Ted Talk lol

Mobility: What is it??

A lot of people don’t realize that mobility is not the same as stretching.  I think most people go thru the motions of stretching as a passing thought they need to do to get further in their fitness career.  In my humble opinion, it should be predominantly replaced with much more mobility.

So…what is mobility??

Mobility is the ability to move a limb through its full range of motion. This is not to be confused with flexibility which is simply the length of the muscle. Mobility is a controlled voluntary movement through its entire functional range of motion. Mobility training is the process in which you work to improve mobility in all or a single joint. In doing so you reduce the potential of imbalances, thus reducing the risk for injuries, allows for full benefits of exercise by moving limbs through their respective full range of motion, and helps you move better whether that is for daily activities or for sport.” https://www.atlasfitnessdc.com/mobility-training-need/

One of the best resources I have is an amazing book by Dr. Kelly Starrett called “Becoming a Supple Leopard”.  It changed how I approach my own training and how I train others.

There a tons of resources to find their work and learn about what mobility exercises best fit an individual.

I, admittedly, laughed when I heard the title and couldn’t believe that was an actual resource–but it is.  And, it’s one of the most utilized resources I use weekly to educate others and refresh my skills on it.

Go try some mobility and see how it fits into your training!!

2014 (just had twins)  2019 (sexyyy)

A little more about me:

What you see now isn’t how it’s been a majority of my life.  I was anorexic in my teens, unhealthy body image to be as thin as possible to have the “thigh gap” and somehow that would give me worth (funny right).

I remember once, I was in a trial study to take these two chalk-like tasting pills every day for a month.  I was allowed to eat as much salad as I wanted with whatever toppings…that was my “limitless” food.  I lost a good bit of weight and thought “wow, this is it”…lol it all came back and more.

I tried lots of diet “styles”:  OMAD (One Meal a Day), IF (Intermittent Fasting), Paleo, Vegan, Vegetarian, Keto, “Clean” eating, HCG…and honestly, none worked long-term.  I realized I needed a combo of dietary “styles” to fit my life and how it evolves.  Not ONE thing worked for me; but combined, a few did.

I still do IF, sometimes OMAD depending on how busy my days are, and I enjoy eating “clean” (I hate that word) aka nutritious foods but I’m a glutton for almond butter with marshmallows, doughnuts, cheesecake, pizza…lol sooooo yeah.  It is really about finding what worked for me and it just so happened to be a few things.

I got “serious” about my health/fitness in 2016 (my 30th birthday that year) and decided to figure out what worked for me.  I spent a solid YEAR (365 days) of measuring/weighing everything I put in my body…yes, it was tedious.  Yes, it was a lot–but I was ready for it.  I was ready to figure out what the heck I needed to do for ME and stop trying to hope that other peoples plans would be just as good for me.  I still weigh things when I want to hone in on my diet if I want to cut for an event/things are getting too tight, but I don’t stress about it.

I don’t push what I’ve done on anyone, I don’t sell anything (not sponsored lol) and I don’t know if I could be if it comes to a product that “promises” things…it’s just not my style.

I believe that most people just need to figure out what works for them on a personal level when it comes to exercises and even diet.  What I do for me, I don’t do for anybody else.

I treat everyone, current and past, that I have trained like they should be treated:  priceless in their endeavors to their goals of loving what they see and how they feel.

The process didn’t happen overnight…it didn’t happen in a year…it still ISN’T over.  But I’m happy with how far I have come and hopefully those I’ve helped, and continue to help, trust the process too.

I had my son in 2005, and twins in 2014.
